Ekiti Election results: Nigerians react as APC’s Fayemi wins

Nigerians have reacted to the outcome of the Ekiti governorship election, with the All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate Kayode Fayemi beating Kolapo Olusola-Eleka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

From the results, Fayemi won in 13 out of 16 local governments.

He led with total votes of 197,450 against PDP’s 178,121.

Reacting to the PDP defeat, Nigerians on social media shared divergent opinions.

Some expressed joy that Fayose had been defeated after owing salaries of civil servants for months.

However, others wondered why Nigerians voted for the APC candidate despite the state of the nation.

Here are some comments gathered from Twitter:

@Officialhudan “The beginning of a new dawn. Congrats Fayemi.”

@Aaajay “Now Nigerians should relax and enjoy the next few weeks/months of watching our Fayose (lúkúlúkú) & his PDP (àwàdà kēríkērì) theatrics

“APCNigeria all the way! Buhari till 2023 by GOD’s grace when Osinbajo shall take over.”

@Fibgaya “PDP played themselves really. No love for Fayose whatsoever. But that guy can make mouth as if PDP would be able to sweep 10 LGAs.”

@SamEbadan “You don’t impose a person on people and you expect them to smile to the ballot. Fayose got it wrong from there.PDP need to brace up. This issue of imposition of candidates is destroying Them day by day.”

@Akandesiwaju “Congrats to Fayemi on his emergence as the next GOVERNOR of the state. That’s what u get when u introduce stomach infrastructure, d highest bidder wins. Ekiti people went to the highest bidder by exchanging votes for a price. Credit to Fayose the initiator.”

@Festusthomas “My take on the Ekiti election, I believe Nigerians have become wiser they now vote for the candidate rather than political party, if Fayemi won it’s because the Ekiti people believe he is a better candidate, congratulations Fayemi.”

@Seunolusola “The bitter truth is, FG and Mr integrity will use Fayemi to terrorize Fayose, Man should get ready.”

@Folarbid “ Congratulations Dr. JK Fayemi! We hope our land has been taken back and our hope restored. Peace be on Ekiti Land.”

@Iammikkypel “You cannot owe workers eight months salaries and expect to win, where is the strength to vote for you? Any serious governor would make the salary of his workers his top priority. Congratulations JKF… Please lead well, deal with it for four years.”

@AsiwajuOladimeji “The battle to save my state EKITI from ending to destruction was WORTH it. This is the first time I actively gave all MY PASSION to my state. Now, the journey to reclaim our land and project it as the fountain of knowledge just began.”

@Detay18 “What a dramatic governor Fayose. He boasted that he controls 80% of Ekiti State, and with the Election results, Gov. Fayose lost his to APC. it’s obvious that he is losing control of the State. Ekiti people have spoken through their votes cast.”

@Polifocus1 “What to learn about EkitiDecides2018.. Ekiti is a ‘civil servant’ state, owe them and see reactions not only from them but also from market women and businessmen.”

@Olamide15 “After seeing what happened in Ekiti elections, it might be the last time I will ever vote. I have given up on the country. People are gullible and cheap.APC led government has really understood Nigerians “inflict them with much pain and give them a soothing balm” they will forget the initial and praise you for your soothing balm. Nothing is gonna change come 2019.”

@Kaycee “PDP has lost in Ekiti. Nigerians saw it coming.”

@Atinukeakinpelu “I just hope this one will be a good one for The civil servants of Ekiti state and the entire Community.. In other News congratulations to Fayemi.”

@FemiAdenekan “This is a litmus test for 2019. Social media rants do not win elections. I hope Atiku and other R-APC guys are taking note.Garri frying, kpomo cutting Fayose could not even win his own LGA. Ekiti people are smart. Thank God for a free and fair election, unlike that of 2014.”
