eSwatini suspends new posts, promotions

The prevailing economic crunch and dwindling finances have forced eSwatini (Swaziland) to suspend new posts and promotions of public servants.
A memo to the effect was released by Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Public Service Evart Madlopha.
The PS encouraged government ministries to explore other service delivery methods for the provision of services that require human capital through consultant with his ministry.
“Principal secretaries and heads of department are hereby informed that cabinet has directed that all vacant posts including creation of new posts and promotions across government be frozen.
This state of affairs has been necessitated by the current financial situation in the country and the cash flow problems faced by government” it said.
Heads of government offices were further informed that the ministry of Public Service will not consider any request from departments seeking approval to fill vacant posts.
“All public service commissions and other designated appointing authorities are therefore urged to heed this directive and ensure that no appointments and promotions are made against any vacant posts,” the memo adds.
The government in Mbabane has lately faced serious financial challenges that have seen it failing to pay monthly grants, purchasing medical drugs, paying suppliers and purchasing food rations for school children.
